The Vibrios Isolated from Octopus variabilis

Abstract
The octopus is one of the important marine product but can cause health problem especially in summmer season, because it is eaten as raw slice. Vibrios were isolated from the living octopus (Octopus variabilis) intestine, which were purchased in
the
live-fish markets in the Kwangandong. Pusan from July to September 1995, and tested for their naturally acquired antibiotics resistance. A total of eighty five strains isolated in this study belong to four species; Vibrio parahaemolyticus (63
strains),
V. damsela (5 strains). V. furnishii (11 strains), and V. alginolyticus (7 strains). Some stains of V. parahaemolyticus and V. furnishii showed multiresistance against more than three antibiotics. However, their resistant patterns were various.
Especially, two groups of V. parahaemolyticus exhibited resistance to six antibiotics. Each group consisted of three strains. One group was multiresistant to penicillin, ampicillin, cephalothin, amikacin, kanamycin, and tobramycin and the other
group
was multiresistant to penicillin, ampicillin, cephalothin, amikacin, kanamicin, and gentamicin.
